Man found dead in burned Big Creek home identified

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner's Office has identified a man found dead inside a burned home in Big Creek.

The body of Scott Newquist, 58, was discovered on Thursday as Fresno County firefighters put out the flames. Neighbors took photos and video of the two-story house as it burned. They say Newquist was a retired U.S. Forest Service employee who lived alone.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities are also still working to figure out exactly how Newquist died.
