FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The victim was riding his bicycle near Central Avenue and Cherry Avenue just after 8 p.m. Saturday.
CHP officers say he was on the roadway heading south, when the SUV came up behind him and the two collided.
"I think this accident could've been avoided if the bicyclist was off the paved portion of the road way and on the dirt shoulder," said Sgt. Mike Trenholm, CHP.
The CHP says the cyclist didn't have any lights or reflective gear on the bike -- which made it hard for the driver to see him.
The driver cooperated with investigators, and it doesn't appear he'll face any charges.
