Man run over in Fresno park by girlfriend's ex

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Bad blood turned into a frightening confrontation Friday morning at a Fresno park.

Police say it happened when a man saw his ex-girlfriend with her new boyfriend. The man ran over the boyfriend Friday morning at Logan Park in northwest Fresno off Barstow and Marks Avenues.

The victim has a broken leg, head trauma and other injuries after he was run over by a mad-man. The suspect then sped off and is still wanted.

Fresno police officers pulled up to the park to find a hysterical woman crying while her boyfriend was bleeding and lying in the parking lot.

Investigators say the young woman's old boyfriend wasn't too happy to find her with a new man. "The ex-boyfriend, he is in a silver Honda Civic," Lt. Joe Gomez with the Fresno Police department explained. "He strikes the boyfriend with the car, hits him at a high rate of speed. The victim is knocked onto the windshield, and he is carried for quite a ways."

Officers say the victim was eating in this white Ford truck when 23-year-old Anthony Rangel spotted his ex. Police say he initially pointed to her and the victim in an angry manner before circling around and returning. "He gets mad, the former boyfriend," Gomez explained. "He comes back, the current boyfriend jumps out of the truck and kind of gives him a 'hey, what's up' thing, standing to the side of the truck."

Police say the female already had a restraining order against Rangel and their relationship ended about two years ago. Officers believe the suspect is likely still in the area. The victim was seriously hurt, but able to give officers a brief statement before he was treated at the hospital.

The suspect is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon.
