FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A standoff ended in Central Fresno after a man barricaded himself in a house. Police say he was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect, 38-year-old Johnny Vega, was believed to be armed and holed up inside an apartment Friday morning.
Vega is a known Eastside Bulldog Gang Member, police say. He was also wanted on a $1 million bond for identity theft and has a lengthy criminal history.
Police say this call initially started around 3 AM when Vega went to a friend's house and accused him cheating with his girlfriend. He then pointed a gun at him and robbed him. Police later saw Vega on the street and he went into his home, causing the standoff with police.
"He then pointed the assault rifle at the victim, he demanded money -- the victim had no money. He then demanded his cell phone, so the victim gave it, he though he was going to shoot him... Vega made him go into the bathroom... said he was coming back to shoot him," said Lt. Joe Gomez, Fresno Police Department.
The man was able to escape before the standoff began with police.
