FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A marijuana bust, a stone's throw away from a school and a sprawling neighborhood in Fresno County.

It happened on the corner of McCall and Shaw avenues. Right down the street from Wild Water Adventure Park and a school.

Deputies found thousands of plants hidden in amongst rows and rows of regular crops.

It's a common tactic for marijuana growers hoping to slide under the radar.

In an early morning raid, Sheriff's Deputies found more than 6600 plants hidden in a field and in a mobile home. This is the second time in two years detectives have found pot on this make-shift farm.

"What we see are these beautiful marijuana plants that have been taken care of and these bitter melon plants that have been left to rot. It's obvious they're not growing the bitter melon to sell. It's just strictly to disguise the marijuana plants," said Fresno County Sheriff's Office PIO Chris Curtice.

Boun Navixay, 59, and Her Vang, 59, both of Clovis are facing felony marijuana cultivation charges.

This all took place, right in Wendy Johnson-Niblick's backyard.

"I am in awe that they managed to do it so unnoticeably because I never would have suspected it," said Johnson-Niblick.

In between these plants the alleged marijuana growers also managed to hide their water usage. Dumping gallons upon gallons of water for illegal use.

"People that grow marijuana are going to grow it. It's definitely a cash crop and we're going to keep fighting it," said Curtice.

Not only does the couple face criminal charges, they also potentially face a $1000 fine per plant due to a Fresno County ordinance that prohibits marijuana grows.
