FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Merced police officer is recovering after he was assaulted while serving a search warrant at a local hookah lounge.

Video obtained from a Facebook page shows the commotion just moments after the attack. Investigators say they entered Chandelier's Hookah Lounge & Smoke Shop after learning the subject they were looking for was inside.

When they entered, a crowd of people became aggressive with police, and one of the officers was seriously injured after being hit in the face.

Additional officers were called in and five people, all from the Bay Area, were taken into custody for assaulting peace officers and resisting arrest.

The injured officer was released from the hospital Sunday morning and will continue further treatment.
