New details released in fatal I-5 crash near Kettleman City

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Action News is learning more about a fiery fatal crash in Kings County. A big rig and an SUV collided head-on near Kettleman City Friday afternoon. It happened on Interstate 5 just north of the California aqueduct.

A witness captured cellphone video of the wreckage and the huge plume of smoke. The California Highway Patrol now says a 73-year-old man from Tacoma, Wash., was driving a big rig when he veered across the median into the path of a Ford Explorer. The big rig driver died at the scene. His name has not been released.

Joel Ramirez, 54, of Corcoran, was driving the SUV. He was flown to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with major injuries.
