FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A new drug and alcohol recovery center is now open here in the Valley.

The Fresno Chapter of the Teen Challenge of Southern California opened its doors Saturday on Wishon near Hedges. The outreach office helps teenagers and adults recover from drug and alcohol addiction through support groups, counseling and live-in recovery programs.

Teen challenge was established in 1963 but never had a Fresno location until now -- despite seeing the need for it.

"Typically, the people who call us for help from Fresno are referred to other centers; the closest center has been in Kern County. So for the last 15 years, while I've served in Kern County, we've had the people from Fresno come down there. And we've always seen the need to have a Teen Challenge presence in Fresno," said Fresno Teen Challenge Superintendent John Burns.

Family members are also welcome to attend the counseling sessions because they are also impacted by a loved one's addiction.

Teen challenge offers all of its services at no cost.
