Plans to bring a behavioral health hospital to Clovis now on hold

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- Universal Health Services had plans to build a 102-bed facility near Highway 168 and Herndon Avenue in Clovis.

That plan was approved by the Clovis Planning Commission. But the company released a statement Wednesday, saying it is important that a complete Clovis City Council consider the project.

The council has some holes with the recent retirement of longtime member Harry Armstrong.

Mayor Nathan Magsig will take a seat on the Fresno County Board of Supervisors in January and Council Member Lynne Ashbeck rescued herself from the vote because of her job in the health care industry.

That leaves only two council members to vote on the project.

Three votes would be required for passage.

Clovis will hold council elections in March.
