VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police say an 18-year-old was driving drunk when he crashed into a home in Visalia overnight.
Edgar Reyes was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after he was released from the hospital. Visalia police say he went off the road near Riggin Avenue and Turner Street. He crashed into part of a home. Officers say the car rolled at least twice before coming to a stop.
Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to remove Reyes from the vehicle. Police say wearing a seat belt saved his life. But the elderly couple who lived in the home must now deal with some serious structural damage.
"It's devastating. They're getting older in their years and the last thing that they need is to be awaken in the middle of the night by this boom," said Marlene Cantu, the homeowners' daughter.
The car took a chunk out of the wall inside the home. Broken bits of the home and flower pots were scattered around the front yard. The car also took out at least two rose bushes and a post holding up the porch. Visalia Fire replaced that post overnight.
