Police: Fresno man shot in the back by burglar

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police said they responded to reports of a shooting on 4th Street near Lyell Avenue. When officers arrived, they said the victim was at the front door of the home with a gunshot wound in his back.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Thursday night near Hazelwood and Butler. Police say the victim was returning to his home when he was confronted by someone inside. After a scuffle, investigators say the victim tried to run away but was shot in the back.

He was rushed to a hospital and under went surgery. The suspect got away.
