Race fans raise money for Valley Children's
The La Feliz Guild puts on the fundraiser for Valley Children's hospital every year on the day of the Kentucky Derby.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The fastest two minutes in sports will help sick kids in the Valley get healthier faster.

If you're a fan of cute hats, the Fresno Fairgrounds was the place to be Saturday as about 800 people attended Derby Down, a Day at the Races.

The La Feliz Guild puts on the fundraiser for Valley Children's hospital every year on the day of the Kentucky Derby.

The donors like to dress as if they're at Churchill Downs, but their purpose is absolutely serious.

"We know that Valley Children's is an expensive place to run because of children's needs," Linley Brinker-Harding with the guild explained. "But we don't always know some of the specifics and this party broadcasts that to a lot of people."

Our own Warren Armstrong emceed the event.

Last year's Derby Downs raised about $200,000 for Valley Children's.
