FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Brianna Ramirez, 16, remains in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to the eye last Thursday night. Police believe she was caught in the crossfire of a possible gang shooting. Now law enforcement is asking the public for help in finding the suspect.
Hundreds of students at Sanger High came out to show their support for Brianna Ramirez. They made banners that read, "SHS stands with Brianna." Her teammates on the softball team and Coach Erica Pennington are praying for her recovery.
Pennington said, "It's just hard she's a teammate she's these girls best friends."
Brianna's cousin, Demetrius Villasana told a news conference on Wednesday that she is doing much better.
Villasana said, "Softball is her life and one of her first words were can I play tomorrow we have a game against Central."
Sheriff Margaret Mims said her department is doing all it can with 20 deputies and investigators are on the case.
"So far it doesn't look like Brianna and her mother were targeted but they were caught in the crossfire of numerous people shooting in the area," said Sheriff Mims. "We can't say it's gang related but it's highly probable."
Parlier's police chief announced the city was offering a $4,000 reward and Crime Stoppers is adding another $5,000. Sheriff Mims hopes the reward brings some information forward to catch those who did this to an innocent girl.
"Brianna could be anybody's 16-year-old daughter, cousin, sister, and she represents every 16-year-old in Fresno County. This senseless crime has to stop."
