VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- The city of Visalia is noticing a disturbing trend. They're seeing a rise in traffic accidents, including deadly collisions.

A fatal accident earlier this week on McAuliff Street and St John's Parkway marked the fifth fatal accident for the year in the city of Visalia. In 2014 they only had five all year long.

Visalia police say they're also seeing an increase in pedestrian accidents. They're saying both drivers and pedestrians need to pay more attention.

Sgt. Damon Maurice with the Visalia Police Department said, "Eliminate distractions whether driving a vehicle, riding a bike on a skate board or walking with your children, whatever it may be, limit the cell phones, put those headphones out of your ears."

The California Highway Patrol says they're seeing an increase in distracted driving. They say it doesn't take much for a distraction to cause an accident. Summer months are just around the corner when accidents can spike because there are more people on the roads both driving and walking.
