Fire crews are working to put out a 3 alarm fire on the 500 block of N. 5th street and Belmont.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night an apartment fire broke out on the 500 block of North 5th Street near Belmont.

Fire officials said it started in a carport and quickly spread to a large storage area above.

Fire damage to the complex was minor, but crews pulled the ceiling to make sure the flames hadn't spread to the attic. Several people were forced from their homes as a result. The Red Cross helped them find a place to stay.

No one was injured, but four cars were destroyed. The cause is still under investigation.
