FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Loved ones are paying tribute to the Fresno City College athlete who was shot to death this weekend. Police say Deondre Howard, 21, was gunned down in front of his own home in Northwest Fresno Saturday morning. His 16-year-old brother was injured in the shooting, and no arrests have been made.

On Sunday, hundreds of people gathered at Edison High School in Southwest Fresno, where Howard graduated in 2013. The crowd included former coaches, teammates and family members. They all say Howard was a leader who encouraged those around him to do their best.

Howard played both football and baseball at Fresno City College, and his mother says he wanted to be a professional athlete. She never expected his life would be cut short by violence. She said, "My son, he loved everyone. He had no hate in his heart, none whatsoever."

The football team at Edison High plans to honor Howard by wearing memorial stickers on their helmets.
