Surveillance video captures possible kidnapping attempt in Caruthers

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno County Sheriff's Office released surveillance video from the Valley Food Market on Tahoe and Marsh Avenues in Caruthers where a possible kidnapping attempt took place.

They say a man in a silver-colored Nissan Sentra tried to lure a woman to his car - claiming that he was trapped by some barbed wire.

The woman thought it was suspicious, so she told him she would go get help from inside the store. He became very upset when she started to leave, and by time the she got back with help, he was pulling away.

Investigators are urging the community to be vigilant and careful when something doesn't seem right.

"Don't put yourself into a position to where somebody tries to get you close to your car," Tony Botti with the Fresno County Sheriff's Department said. "It's sometimes tough to get out, but she did the absolute right thing - got help from somebody else."

If you recognize the vehicle or if a similar incident has happened to you, you're asked to call the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.
