FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Police officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim in Central Fresno about 6:50 p.m. Friday night.

Officers say they got to the area off of Mayfair they found one male victim lying in the street with a gunshot wound.

"I was on the patio rearranging some of our summer furniture and I heard about six or seven reports of mid-size to small size caliber weapon," said Mark Tankersley.

After officers performed CPR on the victim, they say he was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

"There were a number of people who were outside when this occurred so currently, detectives are contacting possible witnesses," said Sgt. Rudy Tafoya.

One neighbor says he was not shocked to hear the gunshots or see the police activity in his neighborhood.

"You can expect it every so often, disagreements spread into heavy confrontation, which is a shame there's going to be collateral damage kids live in here," said Tankersley.
