Valentine's Day is booming for the pet business
A lot of people adore their dogs. But you probably didn't know that people in California actually love their dogs more than any other state in the country according to a recent study.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A lot of people adore their dogs. But you probably didn't know that people in California actually love their dogs more than any other state in the country according to a recent study.

Dog owner, Sasan Sazgar, said, "I think my dogs are spoiled when it comes to getting treats and going to the groomers and all of that. It all depends on how you view them I guess. I look at them like children."

This kind of love is driving the pet industry, especially as Valentine's Day approaches. At Plato Pet Treats in Fresno, business is booming, making organic and natural pet treats. Plato says a nationwide survey shows 50 percent of people will buy fido a gift this Valentine's Day.

"I think they want to share a little bit of love," said Aaron Merrell. "Not just chocolates for the family, but also to give the dog something sweet."

Co-owner Merrell says the company has grown 40 percent in the past year and now has a new line called "Small Bites" to serve more customers with canines, and tails are wagging at the news.

At Whitie's Pets, there's no shortage of dog treats, strollers, and valentine's gifts. One study actually found Americans love their dogs so much, 20 percent would rather spend time with their dog on Valentine's Day than go on a date with a human.

Tailwaggers pet salon is preparing for Valentine's Day. The salon offers grooming services including painted nails and the perfect outfit to dress up your dog. They even have a Valentine's Day special for your pampered pooch!

Crystal Griggs said, "We're doing free blueberry facials right now, which basically a whitener and brightener for their face area that's smells very very good."

Instead of saying be my valentine, many are focusing on their four legged friends. Puppy love... for man's best friend.
