As rain falls PG&E prepares for possible power outages

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Underneath the Thursday night lights, umbrellas were up as the rain came down during this football game at McLane High School.

It is the first big storm of the winter season and Nekeya Hall sat through it to support her son.

"It was off and on kind of heavy at first and then died down a little bit."

Nico Thomas is a junior varsity wide receiver for Roosevelt High. He said weather like this creates challenges for players out on the field.

"When somebody throws the ball and you try to catch it you drop it sometimes because the ball is wet."

And the wet elements brought out a smaller crowd than usual.

"Typically there's a lot more support but it's wet so I'm assuming most people stayed in," said Hall .

Not Jeremy Dunn. He told us the rain wasn't going to stop him from seeing his son play.

"I've never missed a game ever since he's been playing. So I make every single game. It don't make no difference."

And while the game was going on PG&E was getting its crews ready for outages caused by dust build up over power lines.

"We've also taken a simple action lately of sending some crews home to rest and we can bring them in starting at midnight. So if this story prediction holds true we'll have crews on hand to restore that power," said Denny Boyles, PG&E.

PG&E said prediction models are showing there could be around 6,500 power outages Thursday night. So far there have only been 13 that's affecting over 1,000 people.
