Congressman Jim Costa and Johnny Tacherra prep for rematch after close 2014 race

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Congressman Jim Costa has his campaign prepped for Tuesday, and he's hoping it's not as close as two of his last three.

In 2014, Costa won his sixth term in congress by less than 2,000 -- getting 50.7 percent of the vote to 49.3 for dairy farmer Johnny Tacherra.

Tacherra brought his family out with him Sunday, going door to door to meet with people, trying to encourage them to go out and vote for him Tuesday.

Both Costa and Tacherra say even though this is a primary, it's important for people to go out and vote.

"I lost by three votes per precinct, it is was a very low turnout," Tacherra explained. "Let's make sure we're all represented and that's all I'm asking for.

"Too many people seem to think they're vote doesn't count or don't care or wanting to get up on the issues or know what's going on," Costa said. "It does count and it does matter."

And Costa says his team has been going door to door and making phone calls as well.

Now the primary election is this Tuesday and polls open at 7 a.m.

Conservative Republican David Rogers is also running for the congressional seat. His is a independent small businessman and a Madera County Supervisor. Rogers is endorsed by former Congressman George Radanovich.
