California veterans can apply for "veteran designation" on drivers license
The state is launching a new program to honor California's military veterans.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The state is launching a new program to honor California's military veterans.

Starting Thursday, Nov. 12, qualified servicemen and women can apply for a "veteran designation" on their state drivers license and identification cards. Many veterans' groups and other program supporters believe the designation will help medical workers and law enforcement better treat veterans who may be suffering from medical trauma as a result of their service.

To make sure vets are prepared when they go to a DMV field office to sign up a website has been launched.
