Christopher De La Cerda announces he will run for Fresno Unified School Board
It's only July, but Fresno Unified School Board hopefuls are already gearing up for November.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- It's only July, but Fresno Unified School Board hopefuls are already gearing up for November.

On Friday trustee Christopher De La Cerda announced his candidacy for Area 4 in front of McLane High School. This is De La Cerda's first time campaigning. He was appointed to the post back in 2012 after Tony Vang resigned over allegations that he lived outside the area.

Friday, the former educator and Fresno father of three told Action News he looks forward to working with students, parents and teachers. "I feel like I've been trying to put four years of work into the last year and a half, but I will continue with that same push, that same passion when I get elected, continue working within our neighborhoods, continue work with our schools, continue working within the community."

De La Cerda has worked to be the voice of special education students and English language learners. He joins Debbie Darden running in the Edison region and Brooke Ashjian in the Bullard region.

Several others are expected to announce their candidacy's in the next few weeks.
