Governor Brown signs High-Speed Rail Property Sale Notification bill into law
Governor Jerry Brown signed a law this week that would allow property owners, displaced by the High-Speed Rail Project, a chance to buy their land back.

The bill, authored by Senator Andy Vidak (R-Hanford), will give previous owners of property, once thought to be in one of the many proposed paths of High-Speed Rail, the opportunity to buy it back if the state is selling it.

The new law will require the High-Speed Rail Authority (HSRA) to notify previous property owners when it plans to sell unneeded property, then wait 30 days before selling it.

"High-Speed Rail Authority is trying to take farms, land, businesses and homes, many of which have been in the same family for generations," said Vidak. "Folks deserve the opportunity to get back what belonged to them if the state plans to sell property it bought or seized to supposedly complete the High-Speed Rail project."

State Senator Vidak says the route has changed many times and the state may own land that it no longer needs.
