Voters in the Valley are heading to the polls to cast their ballots
Fifty five electoral votes are up for grabs in California.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- There were already long lines forming when the polls opened at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Fifty five electoral votes are up for grabs in California. There are more than 400 voting precincts throughout Fresno County and more than 1,600 precinct officers.

One woman we spoke to says this year's presidential election got her out to vote.

"It's a big deal. We've got two very interesting candidates and definitely wanted my vote to count," said Angela Perez, voter.

Fresno County Clerk Brandi Orth says presidential races bring out the biggest voter turn out. So far, nearly 25-percent of registered voters have cast their ballot. Orth is expecting turnout by the time polls close to be as high as 70 percent. There are 19.4 million registered voters in California. In Fresno County, there are more than 415-thousand registered voters.
