FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno's Poverello House received a major donation Tuesday just in time for Thanksgiving.

Workers with Table Mountain Rancheria dropped off more than 290 turkeys. The birds will be prepared as meals that help feed many of Fresno's hungry on Thursday.

The executive director of the Poverello House, Cruz Avila, said donations have been low this year so getting something like this from Table Mountain is a big help. "We here at Poverello are always addressing that immediate need. And to be able to provide that hot nutritious meal on Thanksgiving Day-- these turkeys are going to go a long way. 18 to 20-pound turkeys-- that's going to be able to serve a big family size of about 11 plus."

Organizers say it is a misconception that only the poor or homeless are hungry. Many of the hard-working residents in the Central Valley struggle to make ends meet on a daily basis.
