FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The California Legislature passed a resolution earlier this year declaring November as Sikh Awareness and Appreciation Month.
Supervisor Henry Perea delivered a special proclamation Sunday at the Sikh Institution of Fresno recognizing Sikh contribution in the valley. "When you think of the impact that they have had in the medical community and the business community, the educational community," Perea proclaimed. "I mean, they are part of the fabric of who we are in Fresno County so being a part of honoring them today is just a natural for us, and we're proud to be a part of it."
This month also recognizes the fact that many Sikhs have been the victims of hate crimes since the September 11 attacks.
