SELMA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A huge crowd gathered in Selma on Sunday to mark the beginning of the Sikh New Year. The celebration attracted nearly 8,000 Sikhs and other community members.
It started at the temple on Highland Avenue and included a walk through the city, before returning to the temple. Organizers say it's similar to a parade but has a religious and sacred meaning to it. The gathering also included free food for everyone who attended.
This is the 21st year the ceremony has been held in Selma.
