"She's very very smart, caring, loving--always with a big giant smile on her face," said Belen Jaramillo.

Milam is in the hospital fighting to overcome obstacles during her recovery after taking a bullet to the abdomen during the deadly Las Vegas massacre.

People in Sanger learned her condition was not improving Wednesday night.

"It was like just this morning asking for more prayers, it was like ok we are going to pray," said Jaramillo.

From family friends, police officers to even the mayor of Sanger, all showing up to offer prayers for Jessica and her family

"Sanger has always been a tight-knit community, and when one of us is hurting or one of us is down were all down, and it takes the community to bring everybody up again," said Mayor Frank Gonzalez.

The gathering took place at Raegan Elementary School in Sanger--where friends say Jessica's mom and sister both work, and students say they know Jessica from her visits to the school.

"It was a shock for me, and I was scared," said Jaramillo.

The bullet Milam took during the Country Music Festival hit her liver, requiring a blood transfusion Tuesday, but a friend of hers says the following day she came down with a fever, and blood began filling up her lungs. She says, fortunately, doctors were able to remove it.

In the meantime, the community of Sanger is anxiously waiting for her health to improve so she can go back home.

"Get well soon Jessica were all pulling for you please get well soon and come back to Sanger," said Gonzalez.
