FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Action News got a preview of the local residents being honored as African American trailblazers.

This event in downtown Fresno recognized African Americans in the San Joaquin Valley who have made a difference in the lives of many throughout the community.

Carlton Jones was announced as the recipient of the "Passing the Torch Award" and said he's proud to have been recognized. He also gave thanks to everyone who's helped him in his life's achievements saying good role-models help push the community forward. "I believe I've really been prepared by the generations that are before me, by different role models-- whether they be teachers or people in my church or just other family members."

Organizers are now preparing for the 2016 Black History Month Celebration Banquet where these trailblazers will be recognized.
