Armenia Street unveiled in Downtown Fresno
Part of Downtown Fresno now has a new name to honor a people who have a long, prominent history here in the Valley.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Part of Downtown Fresno now has a new name to honor a people who have a long, prominent history here in the Valley.

Santa Clara Street between O Street and Van Ness Avenue was declared Armenia Street in a ceremony on Thursday afternoon. Mayor Ashley Swearengin was among those at the ceremony outside Holy Trinity Church.

The street runs through an area where an Armenian neighborhood once stood. The renaming is just one of the Valley events honoring the 100th anniversary of what many consider the Armenian Genocide.
