A Fresno Firefighter is still in critical condition, days after falling through a burning building.

Captain Pete Dern received burns to more than half of his body, and since his accident on Sunday, emergency responders and the community has been rallying behind him.

A blood drive will be held on Friday in honor of Fresno Fire Captain Pete Dern. Doctors say the 25-year Fresno Fire veteran severely burned 70% of his body when he fell. Doctors also say that Dern will need many surgeries requiring blood and blood products to help during his long road to recovery.

Community Regional Medical Center says he can now breathe on his own and is responding to family and friends.

The blood drive at American Ambulance is Friday from 9 a.m. -3 p.m. If you would like to donate there, please call American Ambulance for an appointment time at 1-559-443-5900. The address is 2911 East Tulare Avenue. You can also stop by Central California Blood Center and donate.

The Central California Blood Center says their supplies are low right now. This is the time of year when blood donations are especially needed.
