CHP officers teach kids how to bike safely in Clovis
"We're also reminding everybody that if you're going to Pokemon GO, don't do it while riding your bike."

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Some area bicyclists are now better equipped to navigate the roads thanks to the California Highway Patrol and other partners.

The CHP gave away free helmets reflectors and lights to kids biking near the Clovis Rodeo Grounds.

The Bicycle Rodeo is funded through a National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration grant.

In addition to the free giveaways the officers also go over safety tips.

"Little things like being able to maneuver your bicycle when you need to maneuver it and staying true to the times," Johnny Fisher with the CH said. "We're also reminding everybody that if you're going to Pokemon GO, don't do it while riding your bike."

Fisher said that just like car drivers, bicyclists have to obey the rules of the road.

And anyone under 18-years-old must always wear a helmet.
