FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Community members gathered Saturday at Englemann Cellars for a fundraiser in honor of Karyn Jakobs.
The event included a dinner, auction, and benefit concert organized by Spinners Records. Karyn is battling a very rare form of thyroid cancer that does not respond to chemotherapy or radiation -- so her family must pay out of pocket for alternative treatments.
Karyn says she couldn't believe so many people came together to make this fundraiser possible. "It's hard to put into words... overwhelming to know the love and support we have been receiving from our community."
Karyn recently traveled to Mexico for an experimental treatment, but she may not know for months if it's working. Her husband Jim is an Executive Producer here at ABC30.
He says the next steps involve a trip to Houston to learn more about a clinical trial, along with another possible treatment in Fresno.
