See the biggest Christmas tree lighting ceremonies around the country

If there's one thing Americans love more during the holidays than giant Christmas trees, it's lighting up said Christmas tree.

By the time the first week of December comes to a close, countless LED lights around the country have been switched on, illuminating these beacons of the holiday season. Here's a look at some of the biggest and most well-known lighting ceremonies in the U.S.

National Christmas Tree, Washington D.C.

Miss Piggy helped kick off the 93rd annual National Christmas Tree Lighting in a televised event on Thursday. The tradition on the Ellipse of the White House dates back to when President Calvin Coolidge let some public school students erect a tree there in 1923.

Capitol Christmas Tree, Washington D.C.

As if the nation's capital didn't have enough Christmas cheer with the National tree and the White House tree, there's also a tree at the U.S. Capitol building. The 74-foot Lutz tree from Alaska was lit on the West Front of the Capitol Wednesday.

Rockefeller Center, New York City

Who could forget Kevin reuniting with his mother right in front of this tree at the end of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York? The Rockefeller Center tree is one of the best known trees in the country, perhaps because half a million people walk by it every day. It was lit up during a televised ceremony on Wednesday.

The Grove, Los Angeles

One of the most gargantuan trees in the country is the one at The Grove shopping center in Los Angeles. The tree, which is over 100 feet tall, had its 15,000 lights illuminated on Nov. 14.

America's Tallest Fresh-Cut Christmas Tree in Phoenix, Arizona

If you were to line all these trees side-by-side, though, the Outlets at Anthem in Arizona would stand above the rest. The self-billed "Tallest Fresh-Cut Christmas Tree" in the nation comes in at a whopping 112 feet this year (115 with decorations). They use over three miles of LED lights to make sure it's merry and very, very bright.
