FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- An event on Friday celebrated the accomplishments of veterans representing the Valley in this year's Valor Games.

A total of 14 veterans participated in various events as part of the competition. In all, this group took home 28 medals. Thirteen of them were first place finishers. The events included swimming, archery, track and field, and bench pressing.

"Fresno is considered to be basically a small team, and we picked up a lot of medals, and we are proud of it," said Larry Green, who competed in the Valor Games.

To qualify in this competition, veterans must have a disability or a special need to qualify. These athletes train all year long to participate.

The Valor Games were held in Alameda last weekend and organized by the Paralympic Committee and the VA system.
