FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Several community members in Southeast Fresno are coming together to spruce up their neighborhood.

Saturday kicked off the Ventura - Kings Canyon Corridor Facade Improvement Project. Volunteers spent the day cleaning up street medians, painting buildings, and taking other steps to make the area more attractive. They hope the work will help attract new businesses and create jobs.

Several residents in the area were happy to be part of the effort.

"Said you know what, 'I'm going to come out every Saturday, put in a couple hours... make my neighborhood look better.' You can complain about it, but going out and doing something about it is a lot... better," said Robert Viera, volunteer.

Wells Fargo sponsored Saturday's kickoff. Volunteers will be out for the next several weeks working to improve the area.
