Merced's finest are lacing up for a good cause
Merced police officers will be carrying a torch to help benefit the Special Olympics.

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- Merced police officers will be carrying a torch to help benefit the Special Olympics. Merced Police will be joined by Merced Fire.

Hundreds of special Olympics athletes are going to get to be a part of the games thanks to fundraising from this torch run.

The run will end at Highway 99 which is a little more than a 14 mile run kicking off early Wednesday morning.

Events like these are going on throughout the nation and 46 countries as well.

This year they're expected to raise more than $34 million for the Special Olympics.

From Northern California more than 3,000 law enforcement personnel are expected to carry the torch. Merced police and fire will be running alongside USP Atwater, Cal Fire, Atwater and Livingston Police Departments.

Merced police officers will be carrying the torch to help raise money for the Special Olympics.
