It started as a tweet from the mayor of San Francisco's Twitter account wishing the San Francisco Giants luck in Wednesday's NL wild-card game. But things quickly spiraled into smack talk and a bet that could shake up one of the mayors' Halloween plans.

Mayor Ed Lee tweeted saying he was rooting for the Giants.

A few minutes later, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio responded with his first jab in support of the New York Mets.

But Lee wasn't going to let that fly and slung a burn back at de Blasio.

Then the two came to a wager involving one of each city's prized culinary creations.

Following a little more trash talk, de Blasio upped the ante and settled on a bet: The mayor of the city of the losing team will have to wear the winning team's Willie Mays jersey for Halloween.

The heat is officially on.
