FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A suspect is in custody after a three-hour stand-off with police in Central Fresno.

Officers blocked off McKenzie and Glenn on Monday as they tried to talk the suspect out of an apartment complex.

Police say they were called to the scene just before 11 a.m. Monday on a report of a man with a gun. The man would not come out of the apartment, so they tried to communicate with him with messages over a loudspeaker and with help from his family.

After three hours of announcements and right as the Fresno Police SWAT team was deployed, the suspect came out and surrendered peacefully.

He is identified as Jose Marquez. Police say he is a known gang member.

No weapon was found, but police say Marquez is a suspect in a shooting last year.
