Fresno kids received free vision screening

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Students at Teague Elementary School received free vision screenings Wednesday.

Those who didn't pass were given a free pair of glasses and the service was made available through First Five of Fresno County and support from Cal Viva Health.

Their goal is to prevent vision impairments from getting in the way of success in the classroom.

"This is critical because in order for students to learn to read they have to be able to see material and they have to be able to differentiate the letters they're looking at," Dr. Laurel Ashlock with the Central Unified School District.

About 30 students were able to take advantage of the service.
