Apple is offering a feature on the newer iPhones that could help you and your loved ones in an emergency.

There's an option on your iPhone that can make it quick and easy to call for help. It's called S.O.S Emergency. You click your side button five times and a message pops up. Swipe and it dials 911 for you.

But the Fresno Police Department says this is no different than if you were to dial 911 on the keypad.

Lt. Mark Hudson of the Fresno Police Department said, "We just tested that feature and it came into dispatch like a regular 911 call."

This means that most agencies can get a general idea of your location -- however, Fresno Police Department does have newer software that does allow them to get a more exact location.

"There are two phases. The first phase it has captured the call on a cellphone tower you close to. The second phase it goes into the dispatch center with a latitude and longitude which can be upgraded a little faster for our dispatchers to see where you are calling from."

According to apple after using the S.O.S Emergency feature -- your emergency contacts will be alerted that called for help. It will text your location and send updates to your emergency contacts when your location changes.

There's also an option where you do not have to swipe to call for help. In your setting change it to "auto call" and when you press the side button five times it automatically calls 911 within three seconds.

If you are curious about this feature just remember it's a crime call 911 if you do not have an emergency.
