Police and workers prepare Downtown Fresno for Trump rally
Friday, one of the biggest political events to ever hit Fresno will take place and police and workers are getting ready.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Friday, one of the biggest political events to ever hit Fresno will take place. Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump is holding a campaign rally at the Selland Arena.

M Street in Downtown Fresno closed Thursday night in preparation for the arrival of Trump. Police put dozens of barricades in front of the Selland Arena, clicking them in place, for Trump's campaign event.

Visitors across the street at the Double Tree Hotel watched from their windows while residents who are not used to this scene couldn't help but think about the chaos it's going to create.

"It's crazy. I mean, we come here every day, I park right down the street, I walk here every morning, every day. And now I have to find alternate arrangements," said Rachel Morales, Fresno.

Captain Andrew Hall with the Fresno Police Department said he does not remember a time when he's had to plan this hard for an event. Where some 11,000 people are expected to attend.

"Generally, we police the outside, but because this is a presidential election we have to police the insides and the outside."

Hall said his team of more than 70 officers are also working with Secret Service Agents on security measures. His officers have reviewed footage of recent protests involving police that have gotten of control.

"I've watched hours and hours of videos to figure out what they did wrong and what they did right, and what we're trying to do is do what they did well and avoid what they did wrong," said Hall.

Vincent Solis also hopes they'll be peaceful.

"You can't really be surprised at anything that happens nowadays, but I think that it'll go down without a hitch and everybody safe."

Tim Clark with the Trump campaign said Trump is excited about his first event in Fresno.

"In Fresno, he understands that there is a need for better water policies, there is a need for more jobs."

The event starts at 10:00 a.m. but doors open at 7:00 a.m.

M Street will be closed until 1:00 p.m.
