Water main break continues to cause traffic issues for drivers in Clovis

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- At the start of a busy week a water main break in Clovis is snarling traffic and sending drivers on extensive detours.

A portion of the intersection is closed and crews expect it to be like that for another couple days. While most kids are on Thanksgiving break many people still have work this week. While others may be out getting an early start on that holiday shopping.

If the Clovis and Herndon intersection is on your route know they are asking people to avoid this area and take a different roadway.

On Friday, the water main broke causing water to flood a portion of the road. Lanes in each direction had to be partially shut down and traffic was slowed as crews worked to figure out exactly where this break happened. They spent most of Friday uncovering the pipe and digging eight feet underground while trying to find the exact location of the leak.

The break itself was repaired but the road was severely damaged by the water pressure underneath it. A stretch of road will have to be back filled and repaved.

The problem is that the asphalt company did not work over the weekend and the final repairs will get underway Monday morning. Until that work is complete city officials are asking drivers to avoid the intersection if possible.

Clovis Police Department has sent out alerts on their Facebook warning people that portions of the road will be closed at least until Wednesday of this week.
