Under construction apartment complex destroyed following massive fire in Visalia

VISALIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Firefighters are investigating what caused a massive fire that broke out at an apartment complex in Visalia on Friday night.

The fire started around 10 p.m. near Akers Street and Riggin Avenue.

Video shows huge flames erupting from the complex, sending plumes of black smoke into the night sky.

The Tulare County Fire Department and Cal Fire assisted Visalia Fire, totaling seven fire engines and two ladder trucks. In total, 29 personnel helped contain the fire.

The apartment complex was under construction and no one was inside of the buildings.

Four apartment buildings were completely destroyed, and two others sustained damage.

The damage is estimated in the millions of dollars.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
