Jury finds Madera babysitter not guilty on all counts in child abuse case

Natividad Reyes became emotional after the jury found her not guilty of all felony child abuse charges late Wednesday afternoon.

MADERA, Calif. (KFSN) -- Natividad Reyes became emotional after the jury found her not guilty of all felony child abuse charges late Wednesday afternoon.

Reyes was accused of shaking four-month-old Christopher Rios in 2012, and leaving him partially blind.

Attorneys said this case has been a long journey with several language barriers along the way. They also said the case came down to the doctors who testified, and which one the jury believed.

Reyes' defense attorney, Eric Castellon, said ultimately, the truth came through.

"It was a four year ordeal, it was painstaking to find the expert to find the interpreter-- I just feel that Miss. Reyes and I have been vindicated. Today justice won out, truth won out, science won out. And I think this is a great step in the direction of achieving truth and justice in our system."

The prosecuting attorney said that while Reyes was not found guilty it does not mean she is innocent, and they may have not proved it beyond a reasonable doubt.
