FRESNO, California (KFSN) -- One person was arrested Monday after a shooting took place at Courthouse Park in Downtown Fresno.

It happened shortly after 1:30 p.m., south of the city bus terminal on Fresno Street. In addition to 911 calls, Fresno County Sheriff's deputies nearby say they heard the gunfire.

Investigators found a homeless man sitting on a bench who had been shot in the torso. But witnesses said two other people, seen running away from the scene, were the intended targets.

Deputies also detained them for questioning.

"I think one saving grace we had here is that the courthouse was actually closed today for the Lincoln holiday," Tony Botti with the FCSO said. "This place would have been flooded with even more people."

Paramedics took the shooting victim to the hospital. They say he was conscious and talking at the time.

At this point, a motive for the shooting is still unclear.
