It happened on Fulton near Tulare street just after 11:30 Thursday night.
Police found 22-year-old Kristopher Rodriguez with a stab wound to his upper body.
He died at the scene.
Police say he was a gang member on parole.
They say Rodriguez was arguing with another group when he was attacked.
Police have detained one person, who has not been identified.
They're still looking to detain at least one more person.
