26-year-old man dies after being shot by Tulare County deputy

Officials say 26-year-old Martin Camacho had been booked several times for resisting arrest and possessing a firearm.

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- The man who was shot by a Tulare County sheriff's deputy in Earlimart Monday night has died.

Authorities have identified the man as 26-year-old Martin Camacho.

Deputies were initially called to a home near Front St. and Sierra Ave. around 7 pm to follow up on a recent domestic violence case.

One of the deputies noticed that Camacho was at the home. They say he tried running away and pulled out a gun.

Camacho was then shot by a deputy. He was taken to a hospital in Delano, where he died.

Officials say he was a familiar face to law enforcement. He had been booked several times for resisting arrest and possessing a firearm.

The Porterville Police Department is investigating the incident.
