About a dozen of the victims' family members filled the courtroom this morning as Eddie Cordero was sentenced.
Eddie Cordero was given the maximum punishment for shooting and killing Merehildo Luna and Andres Sanchez in May of last year.
Savannah Gonzalez, Luna's sister-in-law, spoke in court Wednesday saying her family hasn't been the same.
"My husband will never get to hug his brother again, his sister will never get her best friend back, his mom will never get to hold her son again, his wife will never get to kiss her husband again. You took that from them," said Gonzalez.
Luna and Sanchez were shot and killed in May of 2021 at The Palace in Old Town Clovis.
A DJ was also injured in the shooting.
Surveillance video from that night shows Cordero firing the shots.
It also showed him an hour before that arguing with Luna.
"In the blink of an eye, you destroyed multiple families, for what? For something my brother said to you? His words were that powerful? Whatever he said that night upset you that bad?" said Gonzalez.
Cordero didn't look at Gonzales as she gave her statement, didn't show any emotion, and didn't make a statement himself.
Judge Arlan Harrell spoke briefly before handing down the sentence calling Cordero "extremely dangerous."
"It makes no sense to me. None. There's been no explanation because there is no explanation for such criminal conduct," said Judge Harrell.
Cordero was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, along with additional time for injuring the DJ.
Cordero's attorney declined to comment for this story.
Prosecutor Elana Smith says she feels like justice was served.
"The judge made that very clear that this was such a senseless murder over something, you know somebody saying something. A comment over how somebody was dressed and we're not even sure that that was said, unfortunately, but there's no sense to any of this," said Smith.
